Stephen Machua is a Public Policy candidate at the University of Calgary - School of Public Policy.

He earned a Master of Science in Global Urban Development and Planning at the University of Manchester through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.

Before that, he graduated from Colorado State University with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Social Sustainable Enterprise and the Technical University of Kenya with a Bachelor of Commerce.

Stephen Machua is a talented leader with an impressive record of service in international organizations like Mercy Corps, British Council, United Nations Volunteers among others.

His research contributions have been instrumental in understanding spatial inequalities in cities of the global south, socio-economic priorities of young Kenyans and prevention of violent extremism through volunteerism.

He is the founder of Afrom Media, a digital media start-up based in Nairobi and serves in the advisory board for Brainverse Technologies.

He recently co-developed Chemba, an online video conferencing platform for areas with poor internet connectivity.

He previously sat in the boards for Cheza Sports Academy, Change Mind Change Future (CMCF) and Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIO) Society.

Stephen Machua has featured extensively on TV, Radio and Newspaper interviews on the topic of youth and leadership. He is a contributing author of UNESCO's guide on prevention of violent extremism and a Silver Award Winner of the UNLEASH Global Innovation Lab.


Stephen Machua's growth is attributable to years of volunteerism, community organizing, youth mobilization and leadership. He started as a student union leader at the age of 20, became a Rotaract Club President at 21 and continues to grow.
